WSES is proud to provide the following services which are directly aligned to the ASCA (American School Counseling Association) standards and the school counseling model policy for Shelby County Schools. Policy 5.301 states, "the comprehensive school counseling program shall adhere to the state laws and State Board of Education rules and policies for school counseling as well as the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors." We will provide services to support the Academic Standards, Social and Emotional Standards, as well as College and Career Readiness.

In order to deliver an effective comprehensive school counseling program, we will spend the majority of our time in direct and student support services to students. In fact, it is our goal to truly spend 80 percent of our time providing direct services to students or working on behalf of students. We will provide direct services to our students through group activities, individual counseling, crisis response, referrals, consultation, and collaboration.
We will cover several themes to include but not limited to: RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, PERSEVERANCE, CARING, SELF-DISCIPLINE, CITIZENSHIP, HONESTY, COURAGE, & FAIRNESS.
Finally, students can be referred to the counseling department by administrators, teachers, parents and students for the following reasons/concerns: Academics, Attendance, Behavior, Career Goals, Family Concerns, Peer Relationships, or Self Image/Self Confidence.
